Some awfully good color video you've shared with us. Thanks! Reminds me of some of our UnReps in not so smooth seas. DD878 71 – 73

  2. I bet those old destroyers would really shake, rattle and roll you.
This is awesome footage. Love the 5 inch guns on that destroyer, too.

  3. Wow, interesting to see footage this old. I served on USS Wisconsin during Desert Shield/Storm 1990-1991. Weird to think that I stood where some of these men stood.

  4. Discovering this footage is a huge treat! My dad, Commander Henry L. "Hank" Vaughan was Commanding Officer of USS Halsey Powell DD-686 from 1954 to 1956. He took me to sea for a gunnery exercise out of San Diego when I was nine (probably broke a few rules doing that, but I was hooked and went into the tin can Navy myself.)

NO shoes, Stepping the bit of the line, doing a REP during high seas and heavy winds, loose clothing, no helmets

Great video. my dad was aboard the Halsey Powell when this was shot in '45! This is a nice piece of US Naval history. This now one of my favorites.
