  1. TRUMP SOLDIER says:

God bless the Greatest Generation & these amazing young American heros.

  2. Bill Brockman says:

Must be more satisfying for the destroyer gun crews firing in support of Marines instead of fighting kamikaze’s for survival.

  3. 西村賢治 says:

Imagine being on the side of your destiny to die on that island. It is the ally, not the enemy, who does not allow you surrender.

  4. Unbelievable this footage exists, a blip in time. Harrowing events yet to come. RIP

  5. Lemaure44 says:

    I'm asking about John Basilone.
    What an incredible infantry soldier.

  6. Man while this footage is rolling, it's quite amazing to think that the Marines are below deck having their last meals/playing cards before tomorrows landing. Following the mornings 80 90% casuality rates. Most the bombardment had little effect on the Japanese 20,000 hidding in bunkers. The Japanese had built tunnels that ran the entire length of the island, traversing this bombardment they are in the tunnels. Preparing to slaughter 6000 US Marines over the next 7 days. Of all the 20,000 Japanese in hidden in this footage only a dozen would survive

  7. 3:14 that guy just stands there no big deal… looks like 11inch guns and he has no ear protection 😀

  8. Lack of intel caused this tragic chain of events……hindsight is 20/20 , but why wasn't the assault paused to allow the naval guns to take out the killing field set-up by the Japanese?…..makes no sense…

  9. Unbelievable. Great quality.

  10. Valmo2379 says:
