Inside engine rooms of Royal Navy warship. Various shots men adjusting machinery in boiler room. Officers enter and inspect their work. We see them reading instruments and dials. We see them putting on balaclavas – could be fire proof protection hood or just because they are cold? A Naval rating shows an officer a test tube. Officer looks at it and nods. Various shots of shells / torpedoes being loaded into gun barrel using mechanical grabber.

    They are donning flash gear as it looks like they are going to action stations, or General Quarters.

    it looks like they are decoking the furnace guns carbon forms on them  I used to do it in the 70s on a petrochemical plant where we used oil and atomising steam as a burning medium

    The gauge board at around 2 'minutes is the throttle board, that man is adjusting steam pressure to the turbines to make the engine match the speed being ordered down from the bridge.

    Those hoods are to protect the, from burns, looks like might be a general quarters drill. Definitely not to keep warm, its hot as hell down there!
