Another excellent newsreel saved for posterity, thanks P.F, however I think the commentary was less than thrilling, I donโ€™t have any idea why they would use words that would intimate war could be anything other than terrifying. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ

My dad was in WWII, serving on a Gleaves-class destroyer. In the Atlantic, his was among several ships during Operation Monstrous, a three-day hunt for a u-boat that was eventually forced to surface. Its crew scuttled the sub, and were all rescued. In the Pacific, his destroyer was among those forming a radar picket at the battle of Okinawa.

It's only a 'thrill' when your own ass isn't on the chopping block.

  22. Exit Only says:

On one hand, I admire the bravely of our soldiers going up agasint the enemy to protect our country. But on the other, this film short bothers me at with hard sell to get the public clapping at the death of people in war. It's a grim dirty business, and while necessary, it shouldn't be treated like a damn ball game.

  23. WileyIsWeird says:

Is anybody gonna comment aabout that last frame? ILet me explain.. at the end of the reel it says "The End", and then, for just one frame, somone, probably with a sharpie, added in "of the war". I have no clue why this is so creepy and chilling to me, it just is.

Everyone on here commenting "how dare they call this horrible war thrills, it's just death and destruction." I don't think you understand the point of a propaganda film. It was to show the public that the war was going well and that they were winning.
